| | vBArmy - Official vBulletin Army System | Quote: | Synopsis
Please note: vBArmy is fully customizable, for the purposes of a comprehensive introduction, however, we will assume that you are using a default installation. Gameplay In vBArmy, your users are in command of an army of either humans, elves, dwarves or orcs. The aim of the game is to strengthen their army in order to attack enemy warlords and take their gold! Players are ranked so they can see how their forces stack up to everyone else. To build up their attack and defense strength, they must recruit soldiers and equip them with weapons. They may also hire mercenaries or train their soldiers. To recruit soldiers they must have people click on their unique link (which can be found in their Home Base). Each time they recruit an additional soldier, their attack and defense strength will increase slightly, as will the amount of gold they receive per turn. Also, for every two recruits each of their officers gets, they will receive an additional soldier! The number of officers they can have is unlimited, so the more people who sign up to be their officer the faster they can build their army. In addition to those soldiers generated by unique link clicks, they can choose to conscript soldiers - once a day they will recruit a number of soldiers determined by their current 'unit production' value. This value can be upgraded in the Training section. To train their soldiers, users will go to the Training section. Soldiers can be trained to be specialists in either attack or defense - whichever they choose, their specialists will boost that ranking further, while ceasing to contribute to the other ranking. You can hire mercenaries in the Mercenaries section, but only up to a strength of 25% of your total force - so for every 3 normal soldiers you gain, you can hire one more mercenary. Mercenaries contribute to your attack or defense strength, but do not contribute to the amount of gold you gain each turn. Weaponry can be purchased (and repaired, sold or scrapped) in the Armory section. For each race there are various weapons available for both attacking and defending, becoming increasingly expensive as they become more effective. The exact strength of each weapon in your armory is dependent upon its state of repair (weapons become damaged during battles and must be repaired to remain fully effective), and also your level of siege technology and fortifications. Higher levels of siege technology and fortifications raise the strength of every single weapon you possess, so they are well worth upgrading. You can upgrade your siege and fortification levels in the Armory section as well. Each race in vBArmy has a particular area in which they excel. These can work to your player's advantages in gaining higher rankings, so it is worth considering them before choosing their race: - Humans earn 20% more gold each turn than the other three races. Since this can be used for just about anything, it is very flexible.
- Elves are 25% better at covert action than any other race. This can be a great advantage when spying on or sabotaging other people's armies.
- Orcs attack with 30% more strength than the other races. The advantages to this are obvious, giving you a much better chance of defeating other armies in combat.
- Dwarves are 40% stronger at defending than any other race. This makes it more likely that they will withstand enemy attacks, enabling them to keep their gold for themselves.
Section Overview Menu Bar The vBArmy menu bar is located on all vBArmy pages, it contains links to the various sections of the game for easy access. Home Base The Home Base is where your users can see a broad outline of their forces. - User Info shows their general contact information.
- Military Overview Shows their general military stats, such as what their siege level is at and what fortifications they have. It also shows them how much gold they have and how much they are generating each turn cycle.
- Officers that they may have show up under this section. Officers help build their army, and they may also choose to work with them as close allies.
- Military Effectiveness shows your users their Attack and Defense strengths as well as how they are ranked against other players in these categories. This section shows you how well you are doing and how you stack up to other players in each aspect of the game.
- Personnel shows you how your forces are distributed.
- Their Recruiting Link is found at the bottom of the Home Base. This is the primary method many players will use to build their armies. They give this link to their friends and once per day a person can click it. Each time their link is clicked they will recieve an additional soldier and the person who clicked it will be invited to become their officer. For every two clicks any of their officers get, they will receive another additional soldier - this means getting officers can be a big way to boost their army size. (Helping them advance through the game, while bringing new members to your site at the same time.)
Attack When they wish to venture out beyond the safety of their fortifications, they can click the Battlefield link. Here, they will view a listing of other players ranked near them. They can page through the battlefield and search for other armies to attack or spy on. Once they click on a player's name they will see that player's User Stats, which is basic info about the player, and any officers that player may have. From the User Stats panel you can choose to conduct an attack mission. - Attack Mission - If they attack successfully, they will steal a portion of the enemy's available gold based on how many attack turns they used, the damage they inflicted, and the relative sizes of their armies. There is also a chance that he/she or their opponent will suffer casualties, based on army size and damage inflicted.
- Personnel and Military Effectiveness - When your user's are preparing to attack, they are also shown their army stats again so you can make sure you want to go through with the mission.
Attack Log Here your users can see details of ingoing and outgoing attacks. This can be a very useful way to see how much offensive and defensive damage they do on average, who they need to try to get protection from, or what armies they have had success with in the past. In your attack log they will see Attacks on You and Attacks on Others, and will be able to page through the attacks if there are too many to fit on one screen. Armory The Armory is where your users keep track of their weapons, and keep them in fighting condition. - Current Weapon Inventory is where your users see the weapons they currently own, as well as their strengths. If their weapons are damaged, it is cheaper to repair them than to buy new ones. They can also sell weapons at a reduced rate for gold.
- Buy Weapons allows players to purchase new weapons for their forces. In general, the more expensive a weapon is, the stronger it is. Some weapons are unique to a race, while others can be bought by anyone.
- Upgrade Fortifications is where players can strengthen their permanent defenses. This makes it much more difficult to be attacked successfully. Fortifications strengthen defensive units as a whole.
- Upgrade Siege Technology allows players to purchase new technologies to attack their opponents. This strengthens their army as a whole.
Training - Personnel shows players how many soldiers, mercenaries, etc they have.
- Train Your Troops allows players to train their untrained soldiers to be attack or defense specialists, or to be skilled in the subterfuge of spies and sentries. Here players can also revert any attack or defense soldiers to regular units.
- Upgrade Unit Production allows players to conscript soldiers from the local populace - each day this number of soldiers will join their forces.
Mercenaries - On this page players can see the details of their current troops, and they can hire mercenaries. Mercenaries can be hired as attack specialists, defence specialists, or all-purpose troops. Once hired, they cannot be retrained. Mercenaries do not contribute to the amount of gold players receive each turn, but they do boost attack and/or defence strength (depending on what type of training they have). Mercenaries become available for hire at the start of each turn, but their numbers are limited and so there are often none available shortly after that.
| Questions and Answers - What are the benefits of vBArmy for my members?
vBArmy is a genuinely fun, and strangely addictive game. Your members will enjoy the sense of competition as they attempt to build their army's numbers and strength in order to outmatch their friends and foes. It also brings more meaning to any existing Points system in your forums, by allowing members to use points gained by posting to buy weapons and upgrades in the game. - What are the benefits of vBArmy for the Admin?
vBArmy provides a method of adding fun and stickiness to your forums as well as encourage members to "recruit" their friends to register. vBArmy's recruitment system integrates fully into vBulletin's referral system. Users can share their recruitment links with friends and will gain additional soldiers for every unique IP address that clicks on their link every 24 hours. After clicking on the link, users will be prompted to "join the fight" and register on your forums as an officer of the user who recruited them.
Users gain benefits from recruiting officers, as they in turn recieve 1/2 of all soldiers that their officers recruit. This adds a sense of meaning to referrals that vBulletin normally lacks, and encourages your members to spread the word about your forums and attract quality "sticky" members to join your community. Customizability is our #1 concern as we proceed towards our final GOLD release status. However, currently with the first release vBArmy is already tremendously customizable.
Everything that users see can be modified using vBulletin's templating system, so you can modify the "look" of the game by adding images, changing layouts, ect. in any way you wish. Additionally, you are able to change the Names, Costs, and Strengths of every weapon and armor in the game. Weapons and Armor are unique to each of the four configurable races in the game and allow you to set up certain races with "advantages" and "disadvantages" in terms of weapon and armor selection. All fortification and siege level names, prices, and bonus percentages are configurable. You may integrate vBArmy with any existing Points system, or use the default armygold field pre-installed with the package. You may modify little things like the amount of users that display per page, the time in-between turns at which point users gain gold and additional attack turns. This little "rant" is not a comprehensive feature list, we highly suggest that you view our Admin Demo (information can be found further down) to get a better idea of what we currently offer. We are continuously stressing the importance of user-input, as we want to add the customizations that YOU want. - Where can I find additional information?
The "place-holder" site for vBArmy is located at vBArmy - Official Home of the vBulletin Army System, however, that site is not an entirely "solid" source of information as it is still in development and cleanup.
A more reliable location for information is at GameFurther.com.
