I can only judge by the two styles I've seen so far from you and can assure you that you won't dissapoint. I like your way of thinking and sometimes you have to think outside the box and go a little wild and create something that differs from the standard looking styles. For me, I can get away with it because my site isn't at a commercial stage so styles I create (and my co admin) remain at my site so we can go wild and create something out side the box. For you, I expect because your site willl be commercial members will need something different yet something that won't entail to much modding or template editing when the next upgrade comes. I think this alone restricts how wild one can be yet that doesn't mean you (anyone in general) needs to follow this handbook.
Anyway, I'm sure I'm boring you and I won't wish you luck with your design site because you don't need it, your one of the most talented stylers I've seen and I haven't seen many styles that look as visually pleasing as your two styles.
Back on topic, I don't think I'll ever compensate for 800 users but then this will be my first fixed width style and I can't see myself designing many more fixed width styles so I won't be worrying about 800 x 600 users.
We do have another (yet unfinshed style) in the making which does compensate for the 800 users but doesn't for the IE users. Won't that one be a laugh.
