I don't use Zoints. But that's for a set of reasons unconnected with Zoints itself.

From what I understand the whole point is that different people submit different sites, and then individual members can have registrations on each of those sites and one central Zoints profile.
This makes Zoints both a centralised user place, and a links directory - the bonus being it's all tied in together.

Saying you put in more than you get out is a bad theory because that implies no one gains, which is impossible. Ultimately, people will visit your site if it is attractive to them. Zoints isn't there to gaurentee you more members, it's there to make more people aware of your site. Keeping them on it is your job, and those who make the most effort will most likely gain the most. Conversely, if someone can't be bothered and another person has an alternative that offers more then yes you probably will lose more than you gain. That in itself encourages you to do a better job, and that benefits everyone.

But here's the real bonus... they actually listen to their users. Whereas most websites and services ("Hi there, MySpace calling") adopt a "it's my site, I'll do what I like, put up with it" attitude, Zoints takes in your suggestions and acts on them. To me just the fact they open themselves up is worthy of respect.

One last thing, what has SEO got to do with any of this?

okay, maybe i did miss your point too..

my main reason to not liking zoints is this..

from what I understand you allow your users to make zoints profiles and they can see other sites..

the reason I don't like this is,, aren't the chances that your users will go to these other sites and maybe not come back to ( mine ) ?
and isn't zoints just like a myspace ? do we really need another one of those.. there are like 20 knocks off already :|

Definitely similiar to MySpace, but it works as a tie in for forums. If you are a member of a forum that is 'connected' to Zoints your User Profile in the forum is linked directed to your Zoints Profile... Other than that it doesn't make a big difference from anything...

Right now Zoints isn't accepting new sites, anyway. So, it is just another place to hang out of leave your link out there. :p

I don't think anyone would leave a good forum to hang out on Zoints and not come back. I have two Mods on Zoints and fact is they rarely go there. So, basically my link is available to people in two more locations and that is it.

And I don't totally understand this whole link back system and don't know how full of cra... er... inaccurate rogersnm may or may not be. I do sense this though: The good old *****ing about what we don't get and not what we can have idea that is making America so popular these days!!! :p :p

Perhaps Zoints comes out WAAAAAY ahead in the link exchange/SEO deal. So what?!?! If I came to you with a deal = we each put in $500 and I invest it. When we get our money back you get $1000 and I get $5000, would you do it?? (assuming no risk, etc) Why not??!?! Sure, its not "fair", but it would be and easy $500 profit. So, why worry about my cut and just consider the profit. If my cut was only $500 you'd snap it up in a heartbeat!!!! It isn't any different except in the first scenario you have it in your mind "I should have MORE"....

Anyway, I use Zoints everyday. Met some GREAT GREAT GREAT people there. Period.

As for MySpace Clone/Optimization - Zoints is fairly well moderated, so it is waaaay different than MySpace that way and how can having your link out there a few more places really hurt? Free advertising really.

I'll take my ignorant *** elsewhere now, but felt compelled to rant here too!!! LOL

There is that chance of course. But that's down to psychology more than anything.
You see if someone came to my site then went to another site which was similar and preferred it there, then that would tell me they're happier in their new home and I wouldn't mind.
If lots of people came to my site then went to another and stayed there then I would be concerned: Why are so many staying there?
On the other hand, if people came to my site, went to another but came back to mine then I'd be confident they were happy at my site.

Really it comes down to one thing:
Do you want to keep people on your site because you like the activity, or do you want to keep them there because they are happy to be there?
If it's the second then site owners will work harder to cater for the members, and that will benefit all sites involved.

Well of course, but Zoints doesn't care about that. Zoints only cares about promoting zoints ;)
