Default Rebuilding bitfields and missing member info

Can anyone tell me exactly what rebuilding your bitfields does to the forum?

I installed a hack and it had instructions on rebuilding bitfields which I did.

The hack installed perfectly but out of nowhere a member of mine said that his profile information, signature, gallery images, and userpage information were wiped out.

At this time it only appears this is the only member affected. It does not appear any other accounts were affected.

I just wanted to know what rebuilding bitfields does, and if this could have anything to do with the missing member information.

If it doesn't then are there any ideas on how that information dissappeared.
Only admins can delete gallery photos so this eliminates a moderator or a member from doing this. Therefore, something else must have happened.

Thank you all for your input.

Rebuilding Bitfileds would not be responsible for the missing data in the member user profile. Rebuilding bitfields in simple terms is a way of re- aligning and inserting new data in the database. Sometimes required after a new hack is installed.

To address your problem with missing data this sometimes happens to a member user profile because data is not properly inserted in this member user table row.

vB has a built in script to fix that.

Go to Maintenance and then go to "Update Counters"
In there you will see an Option called "Fix broken user profiles"

In most cases this should fix everything.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the reply. I tried the update counter link and it did not seem to work as the signature, gallery images, userpage, etc the member placed did not return after running the script. Would there be any other possible explanation why they went up missing?

Bitfields wouldn't effect this. Go to Maintenance and see if any of the others there help you. Also verify what the 'member' is telling you. It might just be something on their end that's causing the problems.

Hi Colonel Ingus. I will check more in the Mainenance thing and see what I can come up.

I was able to eliminate that the member had anything to do with this. Our members do not have permissions to delete images. His gallery was completely wiped clean. Something that he could not possible do. It is quite bizzare. Thanks for the reply!

Hi doggy1. Is s/he the only one in this usergroup? I don't see how only one person in a usergroup could be effected. Do you have the 'Miserable user' hack installed? Maybe you placed them in that usergroup by mistake :p
