Thumbs down Dev Forum

Hello,

I'm running 3.5.4 at this moment.
I want to upgrade to latest version, but first i need to test it at using a dev/test forum.

i've created a directory called "dev" in my root and copied all files of forum directory into it.

Now i have:
Normal board url: www.mydomain.com
Dev/test board url: www.mydomain.com/dev

I can access it already from dev directory. But it seems that both uses the same database, since when i post a thread or delete it, it's the same at both urls.

How can i run the dev board totally independent from the main board?
thank you

Now how can i upload the old .sql file from the main board into this one?
The file has about 200MB and it says the max size file for upload in phpmyadmin is 51,200KB....

Wow, I was told by vB that this couldn't be done because of the cookies. It gives me hope that you got it to work on your sites like this :nervous:

You don't have to upload/download on the same server. Just copy the db to the newone.

If the cookie path is blank then it has no problems. Only thing you need to change after that is forum url.

If you use the vB backup funtion then you can export it onto your server and then bigdump can import it from your sever which will make it go faster. And the link to bigdump: http://www.ozerov.de/bigdump.php. If you need any help pm me

Are you serious or are you just guessing? The reason I ask is that it was a well known vB tech that told me this wouldn't work. I was also thinking about just giving both forums one cookie name to share, but I don't know if a .com and a .net site can share a cookie. I don't think they can :ermm:

Anyway, thanks for giving me some hope :p

They might, i was actually talking about copying something like /forum to /dev on the same site. Which is what he is trying to do.
