Default Slimming down the registration page?

I've been thinking about doing this lately and was wondering if anybody else has done this?

I would love to see a registration page that asked 3 things, username/password/email and that is it. Maybe I should request this as a hack.

Yes I know you would get some spam, but sometimes in the beginning it's the quantity not the quality..

Haha yeah me too. I hate those sites where they ask you all the profile fields as a requirement.

I believe there's a vb hack for this. It's called quick registration, and it sits just below the navbar. It usually prompts for 5 items, username, email, email confirm, pass, pass confirm.... I'll see if I can grab a link..

Here's one for VBCMPS -> http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=110426

Regular ->

And here's a plugin version -> http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=111783

Yeah quickreg does help. It boosts registrations (but not necessarily posts) too.
I use it at www.sims2stuff.net

I don't see many forums using quick reg any more...what does that say about it?

I myself would never use the quick reg hack. If a user can't be arsed to fill in some minimal information, than why would he be arsed to post a constructive post?

They don't, usually.
On my board I've got a custom gifts section (think the ubux gifts but without ubux - costs 3 posts per gift) and they get sent that as a welcome. Combined with a nagging "Hi! You haven't posted" custom header, they're persuaded into posting...... theoretically. So far no joy but the board isn't overly busy to start with so... a few improvements are planned so here's hoping.
