How many forums should I start off with?

I get this question alot and the general rule is between 5-8 individual forums on your site. This way you don't confused early members and you can make your site beefier with people posting in limited areas.

Once you get over 10+ you start to spread the posts/view count out and this probably won't help in getting new members to sign up. So at first keep it small and it keep it niche, when you feel your big enough, 100 threads in each forum, then start branching out.

But remember to each his own, if you want 30+ forums then do what you must.

I for one hate the thought of having to scroll down 2 or 3 scrolls in order to get to the bottom of the forumhome. However, if some (sub)forums are too crowded it's not nice either.

I think its best to keep yourself to the rule of not using more forums than you need. It's no use cluttering up your forumhome with forums which get posts every 1-2 weeks..
