Default Forum with Main Page or Just a Forum?

Hey guys, im thinking of starting a new site. I have a solid idea. But im wondering if it should be just a forum, or a main site with a forum. I know 99% would probably say site and forum, but I don't really have the time to manage a site and update it constantly, but I can do that with a forum. What do you guys think?

I think you can create a homepage with a few extra pages that does not have to be updated that often, but allows you to put some valuable information in place for your users before sending them into the forum.

MMORPG Alliance - Powered by the Frienz Network®

Mine has RSS feeds in portal.

Make a portal instead of site ;)

Use vBAdvanced.

It depends imo. If you can get good content on the mainpage go for it. If all your going to do is use vbadvanved to have a portal of your forum don't. It's just another step for users to get to your forum.

Yeah - I don't like the idea of a mainpage - a portal (I recommend vbAdvanced) is the best way to go - that way your site visitors are already at the forum and don't have to think about browsing other content other than the content of the forum.

If there is a "site" associated with the forum - your best bet is to just have links to the forum in your sites main navigation bar.

Come to think of it - I may want to do that myself ;)

Jacquii.

If you want your visitors to be "right at the forum" why bother with a portal then? Just send them right to the forum.....

Hey poet, i think you will be happier with a portal in the end......If and when people come to your site, they can view what you have to offer site wise on the portal, then go into the forum's and socialize with your other member's.......

A homepage which is intergrated with vB will be better. For example if you are starting a graphic forum you could use a gallery - like photopost - as a homepage as I recently did with a new site of mine.

Yep vbb powered pages can be very good assets to make a portal page, but all depends on what you want to show on it. Most people tend to just make it a link and info page or a resume of what happens in their forum.
