This used the members info from your forum for usernames/passwords...so anybody who is a user on your forum uses their board name and password for the htaccess

Its really self decriptive its a htaxx mod meaning that when you try to enter the forum then a small box will appear asking you to enter a user name and password taht has been set by an administrator therefore only a member or one introduced by a admin would be able to enter and see the contents of what your page holds, for a better example of what i mean try logging into any porn site, the little box that asks for user name and pass is what this is.

where do I set the username / password? Is it supposed to pull from the forum usernames/passwords? If so, its not working for me for some reason.

It could be the host, if php is installed as a module, it should work. if not, youre in a world of hurt

To check this, go to your admincp, scroll down on the left to 'view PHP info'

server api hopefully isnt cgi, and lower down in additional modules, hopefully youll see php variables.

different server software will give slightly different layouts but the killer for the htaccess is if php is installed as cgi.

its been a long time since I was looking into this problem (luckily i dont have it), and im sure someone will correct me if im wrong on the above, but it should give you a place to start looking

oh I'm sure it does that (runs php as cgi).. I remember checking that option because they said it added more security.

thanks for the reply.

do you know if there's any vbulletin functionality that I lose because of that? I haven't noticed anything, but maybe I just haven't used all the features.

not that i know of, all i know is it throws a spanner in the works if you want to link the dbase user/passes to the htaxx login

there are ways around it but it gets complicated or just too long winded

mind you it was about a year ago i was looking at this so maybe google has better answers by now
