I'm unable to get it to work. I think its my host though

When clicking the submit buttom when I have the forum enabled it sorta just hangs and times out. I get no error or anything. The actual post submits, but the new thread page just sits there like it timed out.

I've tested my connection to the bot/port via telnet. I've used tools.php to rebuild the bitfields (using 3.5.1).

Is there anything in the script that my host could have disabled?

But the lines need to be placed within the forumoptions part of the file.

so open bitfields_ircposter.xml found with this hack
and open bitfield_vbulletin.xml found in the /includes/xml/ dir

find

you dont need to do anything with bitfields_ircposter.xml file

tools.php is found in the do not upload dir of the downloaded package from vbulletin members area.
You will first need to upload it before you can try to run it.

You have to read the tutorial, if you dont understand what to change, go away then..

And use some brains, then you will find your tools.php

Because when youre uploading it on the install directory, you have also to go to the same directory on the http..

if you upload it at install folder, you will find your file here..

http://www.yoursite.com/install/tools.php
