Wouldn't it be easier to use a str replace for the signature variable in the postbit then it would work for everyone who didn't have a skin.

When loadign a page you replace a certain string with different code, so replace the signature variable with: "$sigvar <else /><if condition="$blah == $blah">$vboptions[defsigvar]"

we could, but then it would require 2 changes - 1 for postbit skin (as you noted) & 1 into profile view template.
the way we changed it inside DB itself, so it's more effective

ok, another thing you could do to fix old users is make a maintanence job that will set all users which don't have a sig to the defualt sig.
