A script like this could be really helpfull.
Would be nice if the "forums down" setting where inforced while the backup is going on.
I know the guys over at http://forums.techguy.org/ has such a system.
That way the backups get consistent without any "half posts" in the backup.
If the script could somehow also delete, let's say the oldest backup in the folder, then that would also be nice.
If you have a large db, I guess you have to ftp your site from time to time
to delete some of the oldies's, as space might become an issue.

When I find some more time I will be updating this with some of the features mentioned.

Sonics: Your setting in the ACP should be set to: /home/u107000/sonicsnl/bizx_html/databack/

Hi LiveWire, thanks for your reply. The tailing "/" didn't do the trick. Maybe the shared hosting is a problem for your hack? The MySQL database is located at another server (I believe).
Using the standard manual backup option in the ACP does work however.

Any clues left?

it will occupy the processor and memory while it is backing up + your bandwith while it transfers to somewhere else, the length of this depends on your server & db
