Lightbulb Whats Going On in Navbar!

We're going to start working on this new hack ourselves but since we have very limited time to work on it we thought this would be the best place to request help on it. All that we ask is that if anyone wishes to work on this hack that they release it ONLY here at vBHackers.com. Thank You

The hack consists of a link in the Navbar entitled WGO (What's Going On) and when you'd click on it then you would open up a box similar to the search box, only it would reveal the What's Going On table. A picture of it is shown below, the only differance is that the Mark Forums Read and View Forum Leaders links would not be included. Clicking outside the box closes the What's Going On box. Clicking anywhere on the What Going On box would send you there as it normally would.

Here's the PHP code for the biggest part of the whats going on box (from index.php):

You must first be a registered member to view any code.
Have a look at the FORUMHOME template, this'll have the HTML code. Next take a look at the Quick Links code in the navbar template (around the top is a small part, and the bottom has the rest), this has the code for the dropdown. Put 'em together and you're done

Hope that helps.

Thanks Arnoud I already have that code but thanks for posting it Appreciate the spirit of helpfulness. I think I'll make two versions of this hack. One will work as described above, the other will send the user to a seperate What's Going On page complete with header and footer. The new template's already made. Just have to find out the best way how to link to it

Thumbs up

OK the second version of this mod is almost done. I just need to figure out why the number of threads and posts don't show up in stats ;)

Well yes and no :nervous:

Most of it is completed except for two stats not showing up (posts and thread count). I'm also trying to find a way to make it work with Pauls '24 hour' hack. Other than that it works quite well. It contains two new phrases, one php file and a new template. Should take about one or two minutes to install when it's complete

It uses the same js that the search and quick links uses (see screenshot). I'm not so sure that ajax would make that much of a difference with this type of mod, but I'll certainly look into it once the other two versions have been completed. Of course any other coders who wish to help still can ;)

That depends on where you're standing :p

First style may be finished. Just need to find time to beta test it. Second style is finished except for the thread and post count. There will also be a third style where the 'What's Going On' box will appear under the Quick Links menu. I think that covers all bases
