Is it possible to create a hack that sends sms messages from vB through a sms site to a persons phone ? For instance it sends the sms no. and message query to the site (logs in first if a login is required) waits for a response - if the response is postive - a message comes back saying it's been sent (this is the general idea). Would it then be possible to have that perosn with the cell phone to reply to the message and post it on the site thru their id ?

In essence it would allow users to send sms mobile text message through the web - without paying anything. Any thoughts ?

yeah it would cost you money to send the text messages via the sms gateway.

this is the prices for their service for outgoing tho as you can see the more you send the cheaper it is per sms

Just think one could set up a cheap subscription on their forums to have members subscribe to that feature for a cheap price !

The more members you have, the less you could charge.

Thats a basic WalMart philosophy - more for less - yet make more $ while selling it for less.

This mod will be a great money making feature.

the big problem with this tho is the fact that if a post is a decent sized post it would have to be split up as sms messages have a max of 72 characters per text message so if a post had 700 characters then that would be 10 text messages.

unless you just wanted them to receive notification that a new reply has been made but of course then they could not reply as they don't know what was posted

Isnt the maximum characters around 140 ?

Probably can vary based on model of phone and provider.
