Referrals into the Forums

I wish there was a modification where someone can enter a friends email address into a box and click refer them, and the board sends your friend or whoever an email inviting them to register into the forums and it uses their referral i.d. (the one who enters their email address in the box) and they get credit for a regstration into the forums.

Any ideas with a referral system or even affiliate system for VB?

there are some invite systems at vb.org.. have you tried any of them ?

I started working on one last year but got side tracked :p This is how it will work; a small box will appear on the bottom of forumhome with a place to enter a e-mail addy. When you add the e-mail and click send it will invite that person to visit the forum. The letter will be sent with your username/e-mail addy as the person writing the letter. I may add more features but for now I want to keep it sweet and simple. It will use Flash so it will have some effects. It will also put a limit of ten referrals per day/per person to cut down on abuse and spam. If the member tries to keep using the form they will be warned. If they STILL keep trying to use the form they will be banned for one month. It may have additional features but I'm really trying to keep it small and yet effective. Depending on the time that's available to work on it, it might be finished around late spring/early summer '07.

This sounds pretty cool, you could even make it bigger and have some kind of way to make it into an affiliate program where people get points for referrals, to use in a shop or redeem a check. Do you know if there is a mod for an affiliate system for vb?
