I don't think you need a mod. I think you can do this with just a <if> statement on the usergroup (although the correct one escapes me at the moment)

You would need more than an if statement. You would need to edit a few templates and a few files and add that conditional...

You could of course just set up promotions, make a new usergroup based of Registered users but change registered users so they can't access the forum in question and then set up a promotion at 20 posts.

No you wouldn't. All they would need is to have them in their own usergroups and then add this <if> statement at the top of that sections template:

You must first be a registered member to view any code.
Where x y z are the usergroups that are allowed to view the section. All others will be blocked.

But then you could access the direct link... All your doing there is hiding the link in the template.

No, that's not how it works on our site.

so if you make a template, find:
Quote:
<a href="page.php">Page!</a>
and replace it with
Quote:
<if condition="is_member_of($bbuserinfo, x, y, z)"><a href="page.php">Page!</a></if>
then I won't be able to access page.php?

They said nothing about making new templates. As I understood it all they want to do is to block certain people from a certain section ;)

You need to set-up usergroup promotions.
