a hack for the forums

I want a hack which won't allow the members to see the forums unless they
make 30 posts

Well you don't need a hack for that.
Just use the user group promotions.

I take for granted you know how to set up a forum so only certain user groups can access it, so i wont go in to that.

Well go to Promotions in your user group settings.
Select which user group you want to promote after 30 posts i suggest and assume Registered user group.
Type in number of posts to get to new group '30'.
Select promotion strategy 'posts'
Promotiontype 'primary usergroup'
Comparison type 'greater or equal to'
Move user to user group 'select the usergroup you want them to be moved to'.
