forum invite / private forum system

on my forum site I'm thinking about making it invite only!
i was hoping some one would be able to create a system where a member can send out a email from vbulletin to the person being invited which would be logged under there profile as inviting X person. with a working cmps module to go on the from page to show visitors graphics for active mebers and user places available each month or something like that. and rather than disabling the signup page add an extra Field in the sign up forum where users have to promote their selves ( small discription of them selves and what they wish to acheive by joining ) to ensure there accounts get approved? a bit like mod shack
any ideas would be great!

I thought there was a hack that did this?
