Edit thread to show as a new post

What I am looking for is this. I wanted edited posts to show in the new post search, preferably without changing the editing poster's post count.

I have a deciently long edit period on my forum because I limit double posting to adding attachments and the like. I hate double posts with a purple passion. So I would like it to become more clear when a member has edited their post to add information.

Anyone got any ideas on doing this? Is it even possible? I can handle the answer being no if that's the case.
