Default Do something new with sub forums and new posts.
Version: 3.0.x
Hack Category: Add-On Releases

Hi Everyone,

I've got a mod request for someone with some time and some creative thinking ability.

We've got this problem with forums that has sub forums. I'm sure most of you guys know that when you have a sub forum, and there is a post in, that post will also reflect on the forum home as the last post in that forum and sub forum group. Then, the main forum will have an unread icon as well as the sub forum.

This is exactly where the problem comes in, and this is the reason why sub forums simply doesn't work on my forums at all! The users hate it! They say that they always have to go into the main forum AS WELL AS all the sub forums, as they have no idea where new posts are. Most of them don't use the new posts button, so that's out.

What I can thinking is for the sub forums to be organised vertically underneath the forum name, and have their own latest thread time and thread name and last poster, together with the main forum. They can also be in the smaller font size that the main forum is in, but it would make it easier to find out where new posts are.

Obviously, there might be other, easier and more correct/feasible ways to do this, but like I said, this hack is for someone with creative ability, which counts me out completely.

There are several "Sub-forum" Arrangement hacks out. I believe vb.com also have a "How to" section to arrange them better.

Hey Slyfox. Thanks for the reply. I already have a sub forum arrange hack installed. They are now arranged vertically underneath each other.

The problem is that you still don't know where a new post is. To arrange them isn't all that difficult, but to see where the new posts are (especially the parent forum, since that turns unread if any of the sub forums has an unread post in it) is the real problem.
