I have finished it... but it's not possible to do this through vbulletin system if you have a large amount of ftps... I did make a second version that works like update counters allthough that script has a nasty bug. which i can't fix soon i guess....

Have you considered the BW usage of such a task not to mention server load.

don't see what the problem would be, if coded properly server load should be minimal and BW well don't see much difference if you check them all by hand :s
Ofcourse you don't have to try to check ALL the ftp's on the forum at once but like i said if coded properly it should do that in stages or so.

I have coded it properly and I still know that checking 1000+ ftps takes time and adds to your monthly BW usage on top of the already in place usage from users checking by hand. Server load is only minimal if you check them one at a time and that takes a long time.

So it is possible ?
If you check during times that no one is online (night times etc) it should work right ?
And could you be more specific on the BW how much is it then ?

Any chance you might release it or hand it out if you do not consider it release worthy yet ?

No you cant run it using vB's cron system when nobody is online. vB's cron system only does its job when the board is active if nobody visits the board for a few days none of your cp created cron jobs will work.
I dont have specific on BW usage its been quite a while since we used a system like that. If i can find it ill share it but dont hold your breath as I said been some time since we used a sytem like that.

If your host allows you could create a standalone php script and run it as a cronjob via your host then it would run whenever you choose.
The key I guess to a hack like this is a flawless status checker and there isnt one of those they do timeout unless you set page time out to zero NOT ADVISABLE! and if it reaches max execution time then your hack will cease to work. This could happen on the first ftp or the last or not at all since it doent always happen. Timeout on ftp_connect and also fopen functions dont always work.
You need also the ability to log it to make sure its doing its job correctly which you can do in vB in a cron job and can help you track down where it stopped working if in deed it did.

There are numerous problems with this hack and they where definately a part of my move away from such a system however as I said if I can find the files you are welcome to them perhaps you or someone else can improve on them.

Well ShavedApe, thats the nasty bug i got with the php time executing limit

I guess the bw isn't that much...

The first works with the ****ty vbb cronjob **** but it's not stable because if a user request an other page it will abort...

Second one will check ftps like the update counter system where i have the time limit bug ...
