Default Choose a Smiley Set to use
Version: 3.6.x
Hack Category: End-User Options

I'm NOT sure how to do this,

but I would like to have Several different Sets of Smilies Available for my users to choose from (in the UserCP).

An Example of What I mean:

Say I have 5 users that each choose a different Smiley pack to use on my Forums

User 1 chooses Bears
User 2 chooses Standard (default)
User 3 chooses Animated Monkey
User 4 chooses Pirate Emoticons v2
User 5 chooses Wacky Emoticons

I Post a message with a wink ( ) Emoticon in it, So:

User 1 See's:
User 2 See's:
User 3 See's:
User 4 See's:
User 5 See's:

I Would also like to be able to put an option in the UserCP for them to
be able to choose which Set of Smilies they want to use.

does that make any sense, or did I just confuse you?

The only option I've found so far is to change the Smilies for everybody, When what I want is for each user to be able to choose their own set of Smilies.

A quick & dirty way of doing this would be to use styles and a replacement variables.

Establish a base style, named "Standard" for example. Then create a child style of Standard for each of the smiley sets you have.

Standard
- Bears
- Monkey
- Pirate
- Wacky

Then in your servers images/smilies folder put each of the smilies sets in their own folder.

Finally, in each of your child styles create a replacement variable so that the path to your standard smilies is changed to the folder that corresponds to the smilies that are to be associated to that style.

The end result would be that the smilies could be changed by the user by simpling selecting a different named style from the standard drop-down style chooser (or in their UserCP).

Using that method it would allow you to do what you want with no code hacks/plugns, or other changes.

IF I did that, then everytime I added (or deleted) a hack/MOD I'd have to do so on every "Style"

I am a Truck Driver, and have limited net access while on the road,

I have posted several Smilie Sets of Shelley's and almost every user would like to see a different set of Smilie's ;)

hence, the request for a hack/MOD.

No, just once... that's why I mentioned to make the new styles to be children of the Standard style. That way any changes you make to the 'parent' style are automatically inherited by the 'child' styles beneath it.

Any time. If you have any problems implementing it, just give me a holler on one of the vB sites.
