Hi something I personaly would realy like is the Thmbnail gallery like the one
here at cgtalk.com

Its very striking and would make any page stand out a mile

it would be pretty cool if it had options like featured images, article images etc.

basicaly you could flag an image to be displayed as thumbnail across the top under the navbar which in turn linked back to the thread.
I have something similar, but not what i would like, you can see it here
