my point exactly.. like over here you can be a "vb guru" or w/e by making 100 5 min. hacks..

but the person that spends 2 months making a large bad *** hack, is way below the "guru" as far as the ranks go..

it's just a little misleading to any new webmasters looking for help and see a "master coder" or w.e and asked them for help.

I've had over a dozen clients come back to me after I had originally talked to them and they went with someone else because of the rank and presence of the user. Now they are out $200 and have errors on their websites.

Even if they post something at vb.org, nothing happens.. the bad coder will go around and con some other ppl..

Unfortunately it's practically impossible to stop that kind of thing. Some of the time paypal will give you your cash back though.

Nope, nothing is broken. It's not ideal, the designer levels are probably set to low atm, and the system can be "fooled" by flooding it with lots of low install mods, but that doesn't mean its broken.

Paul, my point is that over there and here, a coder can release 100 small 3 min poorly coded hacks and be displayed as a master coder or w/e

but the person that makes a nice large hack, that they spend 20 months working on and is very secure and properly coded. is shown as a "newbie coder" or jr coder.. w/e the ranks are..

I'm not a coder and will never claim to be, but I'm positive I could spend a day and see how the variables and hooks work and could release 10-20 hacks in the next month and be shown as a "vb guru"... IMHO

The only way to properly set this up is to have a team of Real master coders look over the mods and hacks and rate them on a scale of 1-5 or 1-10 and then this could be used to rank..

just a thought, but I very much disagree with you, when you say the setup isn't messed up ;)

I agree with you Brandon. It's not just the title system that needs to be changed, the entire system and structure needs to be changed and the way the content is spread out needs to be fixed. At the time of creating the hack system and title system, I was just going from what was working for vBulletin.org. What I never realized until recently that it was never working for vBulletin.org.

yup, It's served it job very well, but could be improved upon
