Default Hack Request --> Request taken by NICKNAME

I really like this site and I think I have a good add-on.
I posted 2 requests in the request section. Would be nice if somehow it would be clear that anyone is working on the request and that I get an PM or EMAIL that somebody is working on it.

Maybe you can create some kind of MOD for it?

I think you are forgeting that it is a request. If someone wanted to do it then they will post it. If no one wants to do it it will go unreplied. So I don't see where any changes need to made. An unreplied thread means you need to refine your idea and the communication of its value.

On the other hand... it would only take a minute for a coder who was looking into coding the request to leave a post in the appropriate thread stating that they will look into it. Communication is key.

Might also be nice if vBHackers took the lead and made a 'request system' which worked almost the opposite of when you post a hack. It could be a simple thread layout with a place for the hack requester to type in their request, and then if a coder wanted to look into making it they could click someplace on the thread and the hack requester would get a PM or e-mail saying something like:

Hello, On XX/XX/06 you requested this hack. (the word 'this' would be a link to the thread)

This is a notice to let you know that [coders name] is looking into working on your hack request.

Thank you.

I agree, but find a shortcoming there as other coders wouldn't know if someone is working on it or not then...

I do however think that this a topic that could be discussed further. If Hackers could come up with a good system it would put them well ahead of the the forums in this area, as I find it lacking elsewhere, too.

Hm. I'm thinking of a way that this can be done using my extra thread fields modification probably.

What happens if the person "working on it" decides not to bother after all ?

That's a good point, but very easy to fix. Do you know how at the top of the hack form it shows how many files to edit or how long it takes to install? Well simply add a field at the top of the page that says: This request being looked into by the following coders:[list coders here]

If no one is looking into the request then it would simply say "None yet".

The coder could also leave their notes on the progress in a post just like a normal thread. Other members that may have additional ideas for the hacks features could do the same

They could easily remove their name from the request. The request would then go back to say "None yet" under the "This request being looked into by the following coders" field, unless additional coders were also working on it
