seems like some gradients graphic file left in your older skin directory.
unless i'm mistaken, i think this one is configured on the skin CSS -
there is some table class in style with background picture of gradient picture.
so just go over your CSS settings, and your skin files, i'm sure you'll be able to find your answer there. ;)

hmmm, try to check your active skin files:
under admincp:
Styles & Templates -> Style Manager:
then inside the combobox of your current active skin-style, select "Main CSS":
scroll down & look for "CSS Selector: .vbmenu_control" section.
there inside "Standard CSS Attributes" frame, u have field called: "Background"
in it you have line similar to this:
url(images/gradients/gradient_tcat.gif)

so just go to that path & replace the file with the gradient file matching your skin, or fix the path if you know it.

well... check the file @ that path m8 & tell me if it's that gray grad or not.
if it is, then fix the file: in case it's ready skin, check the original file (as it could have been overwritten by mistake) & replace it, in case it's custom skin u've made then re-make it according to your style you've made before.

i cannot tell from file name if it's correct or not. :|
it will require a checking & action from your part as well in order to solve this one, as there is some limitation of advise that can be given out in situation like this - i can only point the way for possible solutions, but you will need to check them & see if it was the cause or not. as it will require both ftp axx & admincp axx to solve this one. you'll need to download each file, view it, and match it to your skin file.

also, didn't noticed it, but if it's original skin & nothing changed, try maybe reverting.
and also, what did u made to cause it ? try to remember what u did, and this should point you to the right solution.
