Default Upgrade from 3.07 to 3.60 gold

i have a forum which runs on 3.07 and want to upgrade to 3.60 gold without loosing my data. I have uploaded the files that is required but have got a small prob.. just wanted to know that when we edit the config.php file do we have to mention the existing database username password that was used for 3.07 or to create a new one....

no !
you want to use the new one, if it was a 3.6.1 to 3.6.4 I would suggest using the same one, but from 3.0.x to 3.6.x I would suggest editing the new config file and using it.
and yes, do an upgrade

If you use the existing db it will basically just be stuck with a few extra columns and tables. As for a new db I don't quite understand what loco is getting at unless he means impex it across - impex sucks.

maybe I wasn't clear.

here are the steps to upgrade your site completely

1. take a backup of everything ( if not all, then at least the database )

look at your config.php file and tranfer the user/db/pass all all sensitive info to the new config-new.php file

2. delete the install/install.php file, your upgrading, not installing

3. rename the config-new.php to just config.php

upload the new vB files, replacing your old ones.

4. go to yoursite.com/forum/install/upgrade.php and enter your customer #

click "next" and "go" about 40 times let each process update and such.

5. delete the install/ folder

6. go have a drink, cuz now you need to update the template, or find a new free one.

7. done.
