First off I want to congratulate you for realizing this community!

I've just installed vbulletin 3.8.0 on my website and I am having some trouble finding styles and personalizing it.

1. Where can I find some decent styles for my version?
2. Is it possible to make an older style from 3.6.0 or 3.7.0 to work on my current one? If yes, How?
3. I can't find an option to change the color of usergroups and user names. How do i do this?
4. How do insert a picture or the actual google ad banner like some forums have in the description of a forum/sub-forum?

first of all, note version 3.8.3 was just released, so if this is new, would be wise to install latest version. You can grab latest copy from vbulletin.com members area.

1. about "decent styles" - there are many resources out there. You can find some skins here, some at vbulletin.org, others you can find via google (for example, one i found via search: Free vBulletin Templates )

2. Yes & No. For most users, answer would be plain NO. In theory, assuming you know the exact changes between versions, you could do manual replace of the html, while leaving all template vars / javascript intact, but there isnt any automated way of doing it, and chances of newbie doing it is rather slim.

3. There is some mod that you can install that add you that feature. Check this: Custom Users Font/Color/Style

4. About google ads, there is also mod for it available at vbulletin.org. Check this: vB Google Adsense for Search plus Integration - vBulletin.org Forum

Can you point me to a good tutorial on how to make a template from scratch?

I found a bunch of addons "hacks" or something on torrents. About 1270 of them. To make an idea some have the name tags such as "AJAX" "Monkey's Works" "Naxon" "CES" "CYB"

Should I attempt to use them? I also think they are old and might not work..

EDIT: On the first link with users colors hack, I read through the tutorial and it seems that it doesn't affect usergroups, but only text that the user had written in posts

This community condone ANY software piracy, espcially one dealing with vbulletin software.
You should REALLY (!!) avoid downloading skins/hacks from torrents/p2p, and grab these directly from source: either here and/or vbulletin.org or other similar modifications commmunities.
About 99% of Modifications are free to download, providing you have a valid vbulletin license (should it be required. Mostly only vbulletin.org require to verify license).
Regarding the skins, it's likely most of the ones you've downloaded are copyright, and these are piracy copies.
There are plenty free skins that can be downloaded from both here & vbulletin.org - all you need is valid license.

Also, imho, the least a community member could do in return to mod author is to give him "credit" by clicking "Install Modification" / "Mark as Installed", so author may know how many use his modification & regain respect for it.

About skins tutorials, you can see the default skin bundled with vbulletin, and start by replacing pictures from it, then later on "play" with any templates html/css for final tweaking of skin.
Eventually, you'll end up with some sort of your own skin.
