Images within Forum Categories

Not seen this done but would really like to add images within Forum categories.
Even more awesome would be a random pic added from a board theme library
every time a user logs in.
Clueless as to the inner workings of templates etc,
but seems like nothing`s impossible with you guys.

This can be accomplished with conditionals and some html coding in the forum home page template....

I think this would be really neat. Can someone post some instructions, or a link to where one could find out how to do that? Thanks for the idea, Joey!!
