one thing though: can you add the if with an else or what ever around the username so it still has the dropdown menu as before?

I still don't really get the 2 pixel drop or the shrunk avatars, but it looks nicer without the big blue bar at the bottom of each post.

I think putting the dropdown back on the username would be a good idea. The infobits (my name for them) look neater sure but as I said earlier, since most visitors are vB owners, it seems daft to deviate from what people know.
