even still they charge for the use of there software yet the coders at vborg don't get anything. And to me it's all the hacks/mods which is what brings people to use vBulletin. if all these mods were available for a free software then i know which i would use.

copyright is a silly thing, no law can exactly say when you are copying someone else, it's all the interpretation of the judge

If they used Livewires exact code, then he can sue them :p

Copyright aside, I use vbulletin because at this time there is no viable competition. But I have very little respect for jelsoft and their business practices.

Yet again they've released some new features and yet again they nicked some ideas.

Is vb.org a commercial board or not?

Nope. .org domains can't be commercial boards, its reserved for non profit sites.

This is not true, anybody can have a .org and it doesn't have to be for non-profit. It's a total myth.

I think it's very unfair that Jelsoft take even the ideas of hacks and integrate them into vB to make a profit on, and then not so much as credit the original author. Unfortunately I shouldn't think they use the exact code so it's not really copyright so much as just taking ideas.
I second the points about vb.org being possessive over copyright EXCEPT_WHERE() it's Jelsoft taking the ideas.
It's worth noting that the vB .php files are littered with "DO NOT STEAL {significant parts} OR ELSE" messages too and yet there must be a {significant} overlap of code in the original hack to vB's version. "don't do as we do, do as we say" in the face of profit eh.

As for 3.6, I'm quite looking forward to it, it is a feature heavy yeah but I should think you can disable the ones you don't want to save performance the same as you can any performance reducers (like similar threads, who's viewing this thread etc).
Not looking forward to redoing my hacks that might break but I think 3.6 is just bugfix and new features so I hope the code the hacks currently work off will be ok.

Oh and with the domains, I think .org was originally designed to host non-profit but as with most things on the web it got abused into a free-for-all
