Default Hacks Database System - Coming Soon!

I wanted to take a moment and give everybody an update on whats been happening behind the scences. I know it seems pretty quite lately, but I assure you that the best is yet to come. ;)

I've hinted in a few post in the past that I was updating a few features. Well the main update is the new Hacks Database system that we've been working on for alittle while now. These new system doesn't use the forum structure anymore, which is nice since we could use the available white-space for something else. The new system uses a completely new directory of my server. Here is a small tease screenshot of what is yet to come.

This will completely reorganize the way hacks and templates are hosted. Here is a short feature list that I'm sure some of you will enjoy.

Hacks Database Features
  • Hack Authors Portal
    • When any hack author submits one or more hacks or templates in the system. They will recive their very own portal page. This page will display latest news set by the author. The authors latest releases, and a list of latest comments recived by the users!
    • Authors will have there own advanced bug system. The one we use know will be transfered over to the newly designed system.
    • Authors will have their own feature request system. This will let users submit feature request to any hack the author has released. This should help eliminate comments in the authors hack thread that has to do with bugs & features. Leaves the comments open to more thank you post!
  • File Statistics on all uploaded files.
  • Complete File Archive List
    • Instead of deleting old version. You will be able to archive them.
  • Complete search engine. Search by dates, custom fields, versions, etc...
  • and many, many, many, many more! :p
That is a short features list that I wanted to share with anyone. There is no ETA on the system. We're hoping to have it finished really really soon, so hang tight. The staff are working hard to get it all setup. Tell us what you think, and what you would like to see added to this system. I appreciate all and any features!

Heh, incase you're wondering: that is the thing we've been so busy with lately.

This project will be massive and take this site to a whole new level, far above any vB site has ever done afaik. I'm sure everyone will love it when its done!

But will the hack authors have limited mod powers over their own threads so they don't feel so helpless?

Yes, they probably will. The way things look now, is that the user will be able to mod the features and bugs, as the thread should only be filled by thanks posts really.

I would be more interested in wether they can soft delete posts. Hack threads just get way out of hand with useless crap and sometimes smack.

Well, I think that's an option worth considering. I'll add it to the suggestions list in the staff forums ;).

yup it's true and a good suggestion, as some of the better hacks end up with 10 pages of thank you messages.

nothing wrong with thank you, though i agree it would be good to maybe seperate the thank-you notes to some "feedback & remark" forum system, and leave the posting for support only.
