Default Broken PHP with SUSE Update

This announcement is only relevant to those customers with servers running the SUSE Linux OS.

Yesterday, SUSE released a patch for their bundled PHP releases, detailed here:

http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-s...-Jun/0005.html

This patch has introduced unexpected behavior within PHP 4.x that can cause data loss, corruption, and expose private forums.

You can read more about this issue in our bug tracker at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/bugs3...iew&bugid=2542.

You should shut down your forums if you find that your vBcode is no longer functioning on new posts or threads. This is a sign that your version of PHP has been updated to the problem version.

Until SUSE releases a new patch to resolve this issue, you should choose one of the following if you have installed this update:
  • Disable your forums.
  • Compile your own version of PHP taken from www.php.net.
  • If possible, back out the update that was made yesterday.
  • Upgrade to the PHP 5 package provided by SUSE.
SUSE has confirmed that this issue affects PHP4 installations only. If you have the option to use PHP5, you should take it until SUSE releases an update to resolve this bug.

Never use bundled php versions. Things like this happen plus your upgrade path is reliant on someone else.
