For anyone who says it doesn't matter if your code is compliant or not, obviously doesn't know what their talking about.

Having a strict compliant table-less website benefits everyone who visits your site, not just a percentage of them. Not only will it help the spider bots from reading your websites code easier, it will also help display correctly on all small devices that your users might be using. The more and more the worlds technologically grows, the more and more compliant code will count.

Where does XHTML 1.1 come in relation to XHTML 1.0 Strict?

I agree.

I use to keep my sites compliant with all standards, but I haven't check it in some time and I'm sure they're not anymore

but if they are, it is better for search engines and SEO

Just found this: XHTML vs HTML FAQ - SitePoint Forums, is it still true that IE7 doesn't support XHTML?

Yep. Not only that but you could spend all day long tweaking your forum code so that it's perfect, and the moment someone comes along and makes a simple mistake in their post like leaving a < /u> tag open that page will no longer be compliant :p Of course it's still the goal and using it is important, but that wasn't the original question ;)
