The most important thing is that the style is cross browser compliant. It's amazing how many styles are sold that don't even work in all of the top three browsers.

Top 3 ?

Looking at our stats for February, 65% of visitors used IE and 31% FF - that's 96%, so as long as a site runs in those two we are happy. JFYI, 3 of the remaining 4% was split between Safari & Opera.

Those may be your stats but they aren't typical for standard net usage. IE is still the strongest, and Firefox is around 13.6%. Safari has grown tremendously in the last couple of months, from around 2% in December to around 5% in January 07 and if the current trend continues they will be double that by years end. Most people can't make sense of this, but that's because they've never used Safari since it's only made for Macs. However all you have to do is stop by a Mac store and try Safari out and you'll see that it typically displays the best out of the top 3 browers. With over 300,000 Mac minis sold every month for the past two years it is easy to see why Safari is growing and IE is dropping (there is no Mac IE version). Currently IE7 is around 10% but that should change since vista has now been released. In any event, no matter how you slice up the pie I always try to code for the top three browsers and not just the top two

I can assure you it wasn't willingly :p Designing skins takes a LOT of work (new designs, not just 'colored' skins) and you need to always make sure that they're cross browser friendly. Sometimes it gets very frustrating Speaking of FF, Firefox 2.0.0.2 for Mac has just been released. It closes a lot of security holes shown below:
  • MFSA 2007-07 Embedded nulls in location.hostname confuse same-domain checks
  • MFSA 2007-06 Mozilla Network Security Services (NSS) SSLv2 buffer overflow
  • MFSA 2007-05 XSS and local file access by opening blocked popups
  • MFSA 2007-04 Spoofing using custom cursor and CSS3 hotspot
  • MFSA 2007-03 Information disclosure through cache collisions
  • MFSA 2007-02 Improvements to help protect against Cross-Site Scripting attacks
  • MFSA 2007-01 Crashes with evidence of memory corruption (rv:1.8.0.10/1.8.1.2)

You need to get out more :p

The problem is I'm not going to take a trip into town everytime I make a new design, (which would be twice a day xD).

Who are you to say they are not typical ? What makes your figures any more typical than mine ?

He never said anything about his stats, He's talking about overall net browser stats and that IE is the dominant Browser (which it is).

Thank you Shelley. I was just going to mention that. Those aren't 'my' figures per se- those are from a company that tracks these sorts of things
