Default whats the difference b/w http:// and www

a friend of mine who has a forum and website asked me to search for answer , he says he noticed that his ranking netcraft (a website that monitor servers) lets say for example http://vbhackers.com is away different from www.vbhackers.com i.e without *http:// ". The latter has a good ranking , below 15,000 while the first one is something around 600,000 ! eventhough , both of `em have the same
1-IP
2-Nameserver
3-DNS admin
4-Organisation
5-Domain Registry
5-Nameserver Organisation

everything's identical except for "Reverse DNS" where the one without http gives Unknown!!
any clue !

I think that monitor looks for the URL to the links posted on other sites. If not many people put http infront of the links, it won't display as many results for that.

Imo that's just a bit of crappy coding, www.vbhackers.com should be the same as vbhackers.com..
