cos I fell for it! What did I fall for?

Well this is what happend...so it could happend to u as well, so wanted to share it with you in order to prevent useless worry on ur end.

Last week I ported over successfully from SMF to vB...
A few days later I get an email from someone saying they cant post, they cant lay games they cant do anything.

So I check the permissions from A to Z and all is perfectly ok. I ask other users to check stuff, they say its ok. I also create a new test account and check it out, its A-OK.

So I tell this person its a problem on their end, they should clear cookies, consult an adult if they are young, etc etc.

But the emails get worse and worse insisting I must fix their problem while not wanting to give out their password to allow me access to their account since all their passwords for every forum and email are the same. Understandable.

I thought this could be a problem in vB or my database even! I was pretty worried...until it occured to me, why not search by IP in the db for this user? And viola its from the same range of IP's my competitor has. Who used to come around spaming until I put a stop to that! :p

So to cut a long story short, always check everything about the user before u go to the trouble of checking everything else and you may just get your answer :chinese:

JFYI - If you want to login as someone else just change their password in the acp, they can just change it back afterwards, no need to ever know theirs.


(or get the hack that allows you to login as your users).
