Default setting Global variable?

How do i set a global variable like how the style is set? Once you select a style it remembers and shows the appropriate style...

How can i have a selected option on a non-vb page that uses global.php remember during the users session? They can also change the option so I would overwrite whatever is current...

Ultimately, their option will let me display specific data according to their selection?

Any pointers will be great... or a tutorial regarding setting global variables...

I have global.php included already... my problem is saving the variable value throughout the session while the user navigates away from the page where the value was set...

The only workaround is to have each link include the variable value so it can be checked as a POST/REQUEST... trying to avoid that
