Default Project Time Tracking

Do you track your time on projects for hobby programming or professional work?

If so, I we would be interested in your suggestions on good software to use for that purpose.

If it's professional work then I find my clients do the time keeping for me ;) xD

I'm too sloppy to ever continue using things like that. You should see my desk.

They are just ones I have heard of and bookmarked over the years as I thought about being organized. What's funny is I am totally the opposite inside the code. There I am a stickler for organization. lol

You might do a search at Sitepoint. I'm sure you will find opinions over there on such matters.

I think they just need to be easy to use. A start/stop timer that associates with a project. And ability to export reports at the end of a fixed period, such as a week etc.

They are great for submitting hours (when paid hourly), billing clients (when contracting by the hour), or simply keeping track of your own time usage. It can be surprising to see how your time is spent sometimes.

Surprising? I'm sure it can be depressing as well.

I keep a log of time that I've used on sites.
The clients usually don't ask for it, but if they did I'll have it ready.

Also I use this to judge how much time a new site will take when giving a bid.

I don't use a program but I may look into the ones CM posted. I just keep a post-it handy and then at the end of the day or w/e, I'll add it to a .txt file in the clients folder.

Old fashion still works: a piece of paper, something to write and a clock :p

Then add it in a db ;)
